As I have talked to some folks in game, I would like to run a 4th Edition game online in a play by post method. We tried this once before in the past on the old site with no success. But I think this time will be different. For those of you not familiar with 4th Edition D&D, there is a web site http://dnd4.com/phb#1 that you can look at that has a wealth of information.

Based on the conversations I've had with prospective players we have 4 possibly 5 of you.

The first choice is to pick which adventure you are interested in running, so that we can get on to the other things like character generation. For those who are not familiar with the process, characters can be made for you under your supervision.

Option 1: Dragora's Dungeon
---------------------------

Some explorers perish in pit traps while others found fiefdoms. What sets them apart? Master dungeons: heroes are chiseled from the challenges they face, and those who conquer master dungeons rise to be kings. Lost artifacts that raise continents from the sea, an empire's treasures buried to avoid capture, nascent godlings amassing divine energies: choose these challenges over the goblin cavern if you want to prove yourself worthy of glory and empire!

Eons past the fabled sorcerer-kings of Parhok perished in a rain of eldritch fire. But legends hold that one tribe survived the apocalypse, fleeing with their slaves to a hidden city, where the greatest enchanters of all time could sleep away the centuries, and awaken in a future age as rulers of a ruined land.

Now once more the forbidden spells of the Parhok threaten the good folk of the Known Realms. A kingdom lies ensorcelled, a royal family ensnared by the forgotten dweomers of a long-dead race. When the best attempts of seers and diviners have failed, it falls to the heroes to save the kingdom.

Have the sorcerer-kings risen to reclaim their bejeweled thrones? Or has a more sinister power bent their ancient magics to its sinister will? Only the most courageous and cunning of heroes will emerge victorious from Dragora's Dungeon.

Option 2: Forges of the Mountain King

Dungeon Crawl Classics #54:
Forges of the Mountain King
An Adventure for Character Level 1

High in the Ul Dominor mountains, at the base of smoldering caldera, a lonely trail wends its way to a ruined dwarven citadel. Coveted by many, its location has been lost since time immemorial. Now you and your companions are prepared to explore the forgotten mountain fastness and its fabled dwarven horde. Within the moldering halls lurk ancient death traps, armies of cruel goblins, gnolls and worse, and a cursed treasure doomed to bring ruin upon any that dare to explore it.

An introductory adventure designed specifically for first level characters, Forges of the Mountain King will challenge new and old players alike.

Option 3: Isle of the Sea Drake

Death stalks the Isles!

All through the Known World, the stories are told again and again, by pirate captains and boasting merchant lords: a ferocious sea monster is stalking the trade lanes, and no vessel is safe. The call goes out for a band of heroes willing to dare the impossible: to slay a leviathan of the murky deeps.

Are you and your companions the heroes that can bring back the head of the sea dragon? Or will you perish like those before you, adrift on the unforgiving sea? An adventure of exploration, courage and cunning, Isle of the Sea Drake will challenge characters with savage natives, the walking dead, gold-crazed pirates, a sea dragon, and an ancient mystery from beyond the stars.

When heroes dare the sea dragon, only the most courageous will survive!

Option 4: Flames of Initiation Bald 1-1

You have come to the city of Baldur’s Gate in search of adventure and quickly discover the Flaming Fist, one of the largest and most powerful mercenary companies in all Faerûn. To survive in this teeming metropolis, you must prove both your physical and political prowess, and the challenges you will face might turn out to be far more complicated than you imagined.

This one is an actual RPGA Module, which you can get credit for playing if you are interested.

Unfortunately, I must also echo Ouph. I am a total noob with this stuff so if I had to choose, I would simply pick something at random.

Ok, so none of them sound cool?

I guess if I had to choose, I would pick the Mountain King one, as it is specifically tooled towards new players, as it was one of the first mods out for 4E

Don't take us out of context :P

For me, the fun of an RPG has nothing to do with the scenery. It's all about my character and how that character is able to interact with the environment they are placed in. I don't care if I am above ground, under ground, in a desert, jungle, or frozen wasteland. Bottom line, as long as my character has unique ability that they bring to the group that they are able to find a way to utilize in the world they are placed in, I'm happy.

I ditto Deb on all of the above. Especially the no mis-contextualizing!

If you guys are interested in playing D&D, online and in a more modern way, yet still with the feel of classic tabletop gaming I strongly suggest taking a look at map tools at http://www.rptools.net/

It still requires all players to be online at the same time, but it's still the best option when you can't get a whole bunch of people in the same house at the same time. Me and a couple friends in the military use it often.

OMG such an easy pick! Here... I'll help you guys out! I vote for #3! Why?

"An adventure of exploration, courage and cunning, Isle of the Sea Drake will challenge characters with savage natives, the walking dead, gold-crazed pirates, a sea dragon, and an ancient mystery from beyond the stars."

It has zombies AND pirates AND aliens!

DURRRR! :)

The Mountain King one gets runner up, just because HELO MORIA. :D
